The Tower Bridge is a relatively young bridge, built in 1894. It spans The Thames River just East of The Tower of London on the North bank and London City Hall on the South bank.

The suspension section of the bridge which doesn't open is 65 meters above The Thames. The pylons are 82 meters high and the width between the pylons is 61 meters.

When the bridge was built the lifting of the double leaf bascule bridge sections was done by steam power, but today the steam engines have been replaced by electrical motors. The bridge is opened about three times a day for river traffic.
